I honestly didn't expect things to be this difficult! While I getting the hang of things, my schedule for finishing the first semester was way off. I'm just now getting to work in some type of weekly schedule. And yes! my parents are still watching me. They want to see how I do from now until September. I'll either have to do both or just university!

Journal Update

Well, it's been a while since I last posted, but work has been progressing - just a little slower than I expected.

  1. It's taken me all this time to set up a good greek program on my computer and a half decent program for Japanese.
  2. I'm still building my English library (all the reading and writing materials I'll need).
  3. While the internet saves travel time (to and from the library) the time needed to do research is the same.
    1. links (references) need to be found
    2. then each one checked to see if the information is useful
    3. links that are useful (and ones that are just interesting) need to be cataloged and read.
  4. The Journals (currently underway)
    1. Semester Journal (main)
    2. English
    3. Greek
    4. Computer Science

Oh, the volume of reading and writing! jHigh is not the problem. In fact, it's fairly easy. It's the volume of reading and writing that takes all my spare time. The good news, I'm getting it done.

[ music | [dvr]Daria ]

Well, another week has passed and things are going really well. As I become more organized, the jHigh homework is actually getting easier. As for my university work;

  1. My desktop is complete
  2. I'm building my library
  3. I'm keeping up with my journals (posted here)
  4. English (the first core course) is well underway (reading and writing being done).
  5. Computer Science (the second core course) is also well underway
  6. I've begun the introductory work for the core courses History and Practical Applications of Knowledge & Theory (the Major study)
I've impress my mom, so she called my jHigh to re-arrange my school schedule.
I now have Mondays off (no jHigh), PE has become a study period (I go for a walk every day), and I just have to pick up assignments in last period Friday.

Week-end Update [16 Sep 2005|06:39pm]

It's two weeks of both schools are now over, and all is going well. Although, I there has been no journal posting this week, there was a lot of work done. So far, jHigh is very easy (finishing all my homework at lunch). As for college, I have all the books I need (found everything on the internet for free) and I've set up my computer to handle all the work.

I was skeptical about whether all course materials (as stated in the first semester syllabus) was available online and for free. However, using Google as a starting point - I found everything. I was even able to set up my computer as a virtual desk, a virtual room and a virtual house.

Yet another week has passed, but it was also the first week of regular school. The challenge balance both college and jHigh. I always finished my homework, early - this year seems to be no exception. I finished this week  easily. The work levels between jHigh and college are incomparable.

1. The Website - building the other components and learning various web design styles has slowed the update of the site. Work, behind the scenes, has taken more time than expected. For example, I have gotten the hang of writing for this journal and set up a virtual frat house (mmp) [http://mewmewhouse.proboards56.com/ ].

As well, I've begun to explore the internet to learn XML, CSS and Java , the goal is to have a good study program put together by October. I still have to learn to take better notes. I keep losing places that I found good information.

2. I've begun English, finding all the information that I need on the internet. As well, I've finished setting up my computer for Greek and Japanese.

Well, that's it for this weekend update. The journals say more than enough for the specifics of each course.

Basic Grammar

Using the online dictionary - Merriam-Webster Online

Analize the sentence;

"I went to the store."

I          {pronoun}
went   {verb - past tense}
to        {preposition}
the      {definite article}
store   {noun}

Definitions:

pronoun - words specific to the person "any of a small set of words in a language that are used as substitutes for nouns or noun phrases and whose referents are named or understood in the context" [from dictionary]
types of pronouns;

  1. personal (I, you, or they)
  2. possessive - a personal pronoun that indicate possession (mine, ours, theirs)
  3. reciprocal - (each other)
  4. reflexive - a personal pronoun compounded with self (myself, herself)
verb - a word that describes an action.
verb tense - determines when the action occured. (past, present, future)

preposition
- a word (or words) that indicate direction.

definite article
- used to define a noun (the, a - as in a store) "any of a small set of words or affixes (as a, an, and the) used with nouns to limit or give definiteness to the application"

noun - identifies an object (store, bike, car)

Then if the [story] is the object acted on - who (or what) acted on the object has to be the subject of the sentence.

I {noun} went {verb - past tense} to {preposition} the {definite article} story {noun}.

This means that [I] is the subject of the sentence that acted [went] on the object of the sentence [the store].

This is the beginning of my art collecting. From what I've seen, the best way to learn to draw art is to collect art that you would like to draw. Then trace and learn freehand drawing via the art collected. Avatars allow you to focus on specific sections of the body - like head and face, hair, hands, (basic anatomy). Then you can move on to more complex features like backgrounds and clothing.

This avatar is the first of my collection. The goal I've set for myself is two avatars per week.

Grammar Study

Grammar determines how a sentence is structured and, consequently, sounds. To this effect, I've choosen to study Victorian literature for it's grammar. However, I'll begin with simple conversation and work my way up to Victorian literature.

This is the first entry in the art journal.

Art is an extra course needed for my major, but not a direct part of the core. Each course, including the core, must be designed from the internet. This is the hard part, deciding where to start. So I've begun collecting art on the internet - specifically, anime. I've also begun to practice my drawing starting with lines, curves and shading.

Super Weekend Update [03 Sep 2005|10:51am]
[ mood | determined ]

So far - so good. My website still needs some work, but it's a work in progress so (while it's important) it's not as important as my studies.

I'm learning to prioritize my work (learning when to get stuff done and when they need to be done).

Studies started (courses);

  1. English (core course)
    1. Vocabulary
    2. Grammar
    3. reading
  2. Greek  (extra)
    1. Alphabet
    2. vocabulary
    3. dictionary study
  3. Japanese (extra)
  4. Website design (comsci study - core)
  5. Art History (part of pakt - core)
  6. Art - drawing (part of pakt - core)
I've been able, over the last few weeks, setup and organize these studies. I still have to begin;

  1. History
  2. Science
Finally, I've set up my virtual frat house MMP - mmp (mew mew pi).

This the first entry in English.

Two good on-line dictionaries;

{from -1-}

  1. Pronunciation: 'dik-sh&n

    Etymology: Latin diction-, dictio speaking, style, from dicere to say; akin to Old English tEon to accuse, Latin dicare to proclaim, dedicate, Greek deiknynai to show, dikE judgment, right
    1 obsolete : verbal description
    2 : choice of words especially with regard to correctness, clearness, or effectiveness

From the above it's clear to me that the first dictionary listed is the best.

Daily Notes [21 Aug 2005|10:58pm]
[ mood | busy ]

Prior to this post, there was just the weekend update, now there's this journal were you can follow my advantures through jH and my first semester at college.

It's been a very busy weekend - getting ready for jH and starting the first semester. I'm not so worried about jH - it's the volume of work at college that has got me.

This college is very different from what I've seen with my other relatives who are in a regular college. They have to choose from fixed (pre-defined) majors. I am free to  define my major anyway I wish.

I thought I was just going into Anime (that was my major 3 weeks ago). Now, it's expanded to cover (from what I've learned so far)

  1. Anime (which is drawing and is art)
  2. Manga  (which is drawing and is art)
  3. Comics (which is drawing and is art)
  4. Cartoon (which is drawing and is art)
  5. Creating eBooks (Comic, Graphic Novel)
    1. writing the story (English)
    2. drawing the art
    3. designing the cover
  6. Creating other media formats (like animation)
    1. tv (TV production)
    2. movie (Movie production)
    3. web (web design/computer science)
  7. Writing the story (book, tv, or movie)
    1. Character development - you have to reseach every character and know their lives. A huge amount of research on the internet!
    2. Story development - you have to research the details that make your story real and entertaining to your reader.
So far the majors covered are;

  1. Visual Art (drawing)
  2. English (creative writing)
  3. TV and Movie Production
  4. Computer Science (web design)
  5. Business (to pay for everything)
